Cooking time

15 minutes

Ingredients

- 225g self-raising flour

- 1 tsp baking powder

- 50g butter, cubed

- 100g cheddar cheese, grated

- 1 handful of wild garlic, finely chopped

- 150ml milk

- 1 egg, beaten

- Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

To start, preheat your oven to 220°C (200°C fan). In a large mixing bowl, combine the self-raising flour and baking powder. Add in the cubed butter and rub the mixture together until it resembles breadcrumbs. Stir in the grated cheddar cheese and chopped wild garlic, then season with salt and pepper.

Next, make a well in the center of the mixture and pour in the milk. Use a fork to gently mix everything together until a soft dough forms. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead it gently until it comes together.

Roll out the dough to about 2cm thick and use a round cutter to cut out the scones. Place them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper, brush the tops with beaten egg, and sprinkle with a little extra cheese if you fancy.

Pop them in the oven for around 12-15 minutes, or until they are golden and risen. Serve warm with a dollop of butter or some chutney for a tasty treat.
